My guess on this is that McVay outsmarts himself. He probably sits there thinking "Nah, I can't do that play...he will know its coming" until the point of paralysis. He did that in the Super Bowl against Bill. He thought there was no point in trying something new because he would have it figured out by half time. Ok...he might have figured it out but you might have put up some points in the meantime. Look at Philly...they went in to their bag of tricks and came away with a super Bowl win while being in the exact same situation.
