No one is disagreeing with you that the defense was awful today. But here's the thing. You're refusing to acknowledge that the offense still failed multiple times. Hekker punt four times today. And we had a turnover on downs. 5 empty possessions. So that's 5 possessions with no points (I think 3 of those were 3 and out) vs 3 scoring drives and just 2 touchdowns.
Kinda like when the defense gave up those drives to the Jets but everyone wants to blame the offense for that lose
It's the ultimate team sport and you win and lose as team .....but sometimes it's pretty clear what happens in a game and every headline reads the same ....defense got throttled
Don't get me wrong, offense could have been better for sure, but this one hardly rest on Goff
This offense could have been better. I think that's what people are trying to get you to acknowledge. So it's good you agree.
So far, I haven't seen one person say this loss was on Goff. You're fighting strawmen!
In the Jets game the offense only scored 20. They failed that game TOO - as in BOTH units failed.
There's no reason the offense should be pitted against the defense when they both failed.
Strawman??this is the strawman that this debate started with
"And that's asking a lot. Perfect offensive line, perfect separation from receivers, perfect play calling. Qbs are important because they can overcome those things. Goff cannot."
That's complete nonsense especially after what we saw in today's game and in many many other games that people simply forget ever happened..... today of all days is foolish to run around spewing that kind of nonsense
That line by Ram_Ruler is not a strawman. He was answering my question on whether we can contend for a SB year in and year out with an Alex Smith type leading the offense. It was perfectly on point.
I disagree that people forget what happened. People are very aware of who Goff is. It's that you seem to have forgotten that there are differences of opinion. And one valid opinion is that for Goff to excel, he needs all 10 of the other players around him to do very well. Clearly, your opinion is different which is also valid.
I guess your gripe is that we shouldn't be discussing this today because Goff wasn't the issue today. That's an understandable sentiment and one voiced by others but the context of the thread derived from McVay's very lackluster response on whether Goff would/should be the QB going forward.
If one feels Goff shouldn't be the QB going forward that doesn't mean they think Goff did badly today. Two different discussions.
