I have no reason to expect Goff to be his 2018 self in this game and that's the bottom line for my expectations.
His play all season was erratic. He finished as the 22nd ranked QB in the league. And his most recent outing was not good. It was gritty, it was tough, but in that game he displayed the same erratic reads and questionable decision making we have witnessed so much this season. We are where we are right now because of defense, Akers, and Goff not making mistakes in that gritty outing in Seattle.
We have to beat two more Hall of Fame QBs to just get to the Super Bowl. Once there we'll probably face another Hall of Fame QB. Defense can get you through that if it's great enough, is ours of that level? Our defense is awesome but it's probably not of rare quality. They have had too many games where they were not themselves for me to hold that opinion of them.
And if you're reading this and thinking I'm being negative I'm not really. Just being practical. I don't know what is going on with Goff but the disparity that McVay is dealing with here is going to be difficult to overcome. IMO this run is now on QB1's shoulders which I think is appropriate and we are going to see what he can do with a team that has almost everything a QB needs for a playoff run.
He is the biggest question mark and unknown which is unfortunate but that doesn't mean I'm not rooting for the guy. Best case scenario for us is Goff playing lights out and rebuilding his trade value IMO.
