Premise #1 is that McVay what's a mobile qb who is above average at off script plays
Otherwise he will stick with Goff and try to coach him up
Premise #2 is that McVay doesn't believe Wolford is long term answer but is a good backup
Premise #3 is that we are a Super Bowl champion with better Qb play
With Ridder going back to school, your college options in the the first 2 rounds that are mobile are as follows:
Trevor Lawrence - The Jags are already fitting him for his jersey, forget about him
Justin Fields - He flashes, but is raw. you would have to move way up for him.
Zach Wilson - I think he goes top 10.
Trey Lance - very few starts (17ish? off the top of my head) and FCS level competition means he needs a year. He could make the middle of the draft.
Jamie Newman - More of a Cam style monster body, but can actually throw the football. He took the year off and I think he is a 2nd rounder at this point. Senior Bowl will be big for him.
Trask and Jones do not fit the criteria and everyone else is outside of round 2.
I think Lawrence, Fields and Wilson are out of reach. That leaves Lance and Newman. Lance you will need to get into the teens to get him, Newman in the 2nd somewhere.
What I would do? Wait and see how Newman does at the Senior Bowl. The Rams love that showcase anyhow. If he falters, or isn't your cup of tea, I try and fix Goff and wait until next year where you have your own 1st and can get a good mobile QB then and cut bait with Goff for much less.
I don't think Goff is regressing. I think he is a slow processor and defenses are catching up to Goff and McVay. I think it may be fixable. I would give him one more year to get it right.
It also makes the most sense capwise to hang onto Goff for 1 more season.
It also saves that 2nd round pick for one of the top 3 centers in this years draft.
Lastly, I have my eyes firmly planted on Desmond Ridder in the 2022 draft.
