I guess he did better than I thought. Never did I think he had a 93 rating. Maybe I should give him a B- instead of a D+
He just seemed to struggle and was like completing a third of his passes for a large portion of the game. He had 3 plays that changed the game, The Kupp completion which was mostly Kupp other than the read. The Akers long catch and run and the great play design on the Woods touchdown. He did do a good job getting out of the pocket on the Akers play even though the pass was easy. That made his day look much better, but many QBs get that benefit. Heck how many times in Faulk and Hakim turn a 2 yard pass into a big play. That helps a QB rating for sure. I think coming up with another big play for Akers in the short passing game for this week will be key. If he can get 1 or 2, 20+ yard receptions off a short pass, it will make a big difference and get whoever the QB in more of a comfort zone with some success. Kind of like making a layup or free throw in basketball to get a shooter going.
The quarterback decision this week is going to be like the toughest decision of the season for coach.
I think injury management is the hardest thing in the NFL. When does the injury of the starter make him less likely for success than the backup? Just so many factors in play and you can't anticipate healing by day and how the player will improve 5 days out during preparation.
On a different note, I give you credit for having an open mind for somebody that isn't a Goff guy for sure. and having some objectivity on a game by game basis.
