I was at that Dallas playoff game where Dickerson ran for that playoff record. Man, he was a STUD that day.
Well, I'll take a "statue" pocket passer named Tom Brady any day of the week. So, I'm not onboard with the idea that you need a mobile/running QB to win in the NFL.
I think you need a SMART QB to win in the NFL.
Don't throw INTs.
Don't fumble the ball.
Don't forget how to slide.
Don't try to run over a defender.
Don't force a throw that is not there.
If you have a QB that can be consistent, and a QB that can keep the above "DON'T LIST" under control, then you will have a winning team with a winning QB.
Personally, Goff did all the above and had great years. He can turn it around if he goes back to being a Smart, dependable QB.
Wolford, small sample size for sure, but he has shown he can get the job done, just don't force the issue.
When he said the days of the pocket QB are over, I immediately thought of Tom Brady too.
But then, I realized that I can't think of any other QB in the league who is wildly successful as a pure pocket passer besides Brady. That's pretty telling.
Here's where I agree with you: if you can't run, you have to be smart. Elite smarts. Brady has all-time great smarts.
And there is our issue.
