I wonder if Staley has helped the Rams' offense improve.
The previous three years, going against the Wade Phillips, the Rams offense would practice against pretty much the same look all the time. And I'm pretty sure that McVay more than held his own going head-to-head against Wade. But I'm not sure how that would help prepare McVay and the offense against all the other defenses they would face.
Now, facing Staley and his varied schemes, McVay and the offense are pretty much forced to add a few new tools to the toolbelt to succeed. So not only has Staley's defense made it harder for other teams to prepare, it may well have helped the Rams' offense develop in ways that Wade's defense didn't.
Iron sharpens iron.
