I don't understand Cleveland's approach on D. The Rams have consistently provided a blueprint for beating running QB's. Instead of forcing Lamar to stay in the pocket and throw the ball outside, the Browns flushed him out and gave up anything and everything over the middle? Truly horrific gameplan by their DC IMO.
Setting an edge is a fine strategy but if you can't get interior pressure, he'll just have all day to throw.
We have great success with that blueprint because AD wreaks havoc up the middle and the edge defenders set the edge giving the running QB nowhere to go.
Cut the Browns some slack. Very few teams are capable of stopping Lamar Jackson.
The Bengals held him to 3 yards rushing and forced him to throw the ball. Maybe it's just a bad matchup for the Browns but they should have done the same and forced them to win through the air and through the air to the outside. If they beat you that way, you tip your cap. But allowing Jackson to run around all over the place? That unforgiveable. You have to stop that as job #1 as a defense and do what you can after that.
