It is the same principle as the defense and why McVay hired Staley to be more chameleon-like and not so easy to game plan for. Like I wrote before, Bellichek once said Wade Phillips has been running his defense the same for years and had success, but what he was saying between the lines (IMO) is he goes with what he has and does not do a ton of adjustments.
Now, it is a perfect storm for the Rams that Akers is healthy, young, tough and only has 90 touches going into Week 14 probably better prepared for pass blocking, and the Patriots were one of those defenses he would see the rock more. I did think the difference last night was the specific run plays where WR's were the lead blockers. That is insane....
