Jared may not be Tom Brady, but if he plays like that for another dozen years, I personally don't care. I suggested before the season began that McVay needed to shorten the field to protect the OLine from what happened last year. My only complaint is that we haven't seen a pulling guard or trap run in weeks and the offense has to run consistently for this team to succeed.

Jared Goff nearly led the league in long developing plays for three years. It didn't result in a championship. This OLine is good, but not great. What we see is the attempt to play smart and while it's not as dynamic, it's what we have to work with this year.

But where was Goff challenged to be clutch Sunday?

He converted 9 of 11 3rd downs, that's where.

And it was 3rd downs of all kinds. 3rd and 6, and 10, and 11, and short etc.

Before this game the Arizona defense was 20th in 3rd down conversions so it wasn't like overcoming the best defense out there.

But still--9 of 11 converted, that's not bad. It kept drives alive and 6 of those conversions, including a 3rd and 10, came on scoring drives. Meaning no conversion, no score.

Personally, I was frustrated by the number of empty sets but I suppose that's McVay's answer to the defenses he sees stacking the box. Goff is improving in that regard and I agree Jared made the right decisions on third downs. To your point, I too fear what happens if that's the plan against better defenses.
