I think another reason the offense struggles, when it does, is because of McVay's tactical in-game issues. This stuff is infamous. For example it is widely stated the Patz couldn't believe McVay had no Plan B in their superbowl.
I assume McVay will eventually grow out of that.
It showed up Sunday though. At the end of the game, Shanahan had adjusted to the adjustments of a tough defense and was able to take the lead back, all with a back-up qb. McVay had the same opportunity and did nothing with it.
Another example is the Miami game. Whether or not they should have been struggling, the offense WAS struggling in that game, yet McV insisted on passing out of empty sets when the run was there to be had any time.
Everyone did much better at all levels against Tampa.
