I am having a bit of trouble understanding the point of your post.
Are you saying that Goff had regressed to the point of being bad, inept, and unable to perform well enough to win stressful games? Or are you saying that Goff's performance at that point, (following the SF loss), was an indicator of continuing bad performance and of McVay's decision to dump him?
If not, please tell me what you are trying to say in clearer terms.
Please don't misunderstand my question, I'm not trying to disagree with you, (at this point), I just want to understand your argument.
I bumped this thread because I enjoy walking down memory lane from time to time and I thought others might, as well.
As to your question, I think that the evidence was piling up that the wheels were falling off in Goff’s game. It was a beyond disappointing year for him and his play in that November 49er game was just crushing and soul sucking. Heck, I’m still not completely over it.
A few posters saw the handwriting on the wall, Speed, Mokler, and Max, to name a few. But most, including yours truly, were ignoring evidence right before our eyes each week. That’s the nature of fandom, I guess. Who knows, maybe we’ll have more awareness ‘next time’?
Anyway, the benefits of hindsight allow us to reflect on this slow motion train wreck that was occurring at QB. A train wreck that many if not most posters didn’t even realize was occurring at the time.
I can only imagine what McVay’s frustration must have felt like. To have the #1 D hampered by a sputtering O? Goodness.
Ironic that it was the D that sputtered at the end and lost it for us in the playoffs ....You can try to spin it back on Goff if you like but most of us watched that game and know why we didn't advance...
Also, Goff would still be our QB right now had Stafford not became availible .....Rams fans should be thankful that Goff was good enough for the Lions to turn down better trades and ultimately was a key factor in winning the Stafford sweepstakes.
I don't see a reason to post some sort of bump on this post as some sort of victory lap, when there is still so much to prove at this point
The Rams saw an opportunity to get one of the best available QB's on the market and got it done....Snead said in a recent interview that the Rams weren't going to trade Goff for draft picks, cuz that wouldn't make us better, but trading him for a proven commodity like Stafford did.
