I heard Simms say that Goff was a good QB. No one is saying he's a JAG. I know it's a lot easier to defeat arguments by not representing them properly but that's pointless.
Simms said he's a good QB but he doesn't feel totally comfortable with him. He doesn't know for sure that Goff is going to deliver.
That's a reasonable take. We can be Rams fans and acknowledge that. I understand the feeling. I was holding my breath last night on every offensive drive in the 2nd half hoping there wouldn't be some disastrous play.
I got the impression that Simms has watched Goff a lot.
My problem with them is that they completely ignore the fact that McVay put this game on Goff's back and he delivered in a big way on the big stage against a really good defense and really got no credit for it at all.... then they finish with "well can he step up and make the big play when the game is on the line?" WTF? Guess they just fast forwarded the game after the Bucs tied it up late and Goff got the ball on the 25 and went right down the field to get the go ahead FG.
Goff did deliver last night on the big stage. He stumbled in the 2nd half but he ultimately got them into position to score the game winning 3 at the end. So I can see how any discussion on if he can deliver would be disheartening.
But the context of the discussion was on who is the best team in the NFC and will get the #1 seed. They're asking if he can step and deliver in the playoffs or SB. And Simms is saying, he still has the feeling of not being sure about Goff. I can't say I feel a whole lot differently. One game doesn't change that.
