we're still a little too schizophrenic for me on gameday to have confidence.
Consistency is still elusive for us this year...until I see our boys settle down and play better on offense.
Interestingly, it's the offense that gives me pause...not the defense. I always felt better about McVay's offense over the defense until THIS year. weird.
The offense gets in too many funks where they don't have an answer to to a defensive strategy....again, weird.
The defense has been a real pleasant surprise and has bent but not broken this year. I'm very impressed. btw -Don't think McVay doesn't know his offense is behind the defense...and I'd like no better situation with a competitive guy like McVay pissed off at that. McVay will do everything possible to bring the offense back to the forefront...THAT I know. That dude is as competitive as they come!!...and it bodes well for our team's future....which is now btw.
Yours and the previous two posts are my focus as well and centers on Goff. McVay has been uncharacteristically transparent that the offense is prepared for contingencies the defense presents but we suffer due to lapses in execution.
Somewhere is a disconnect with Goff. It reminds me of the movie "The Last Samurai" when Tom Cruise is told he loses his sword fights because of "too many mind." It's not a matter of lacking ability. Look, it's complex job and the opponent is highly skilled. EVERY QB suffers momentary lapses in judgment from time to time.
I just think Goff is being pushed to absorb more of a decision making role this season but McVay scaled it back a bit against Seattle in order to win an essential game. Nevertheless, he MUST progress to the next level at some point. I don't think this is the week for it. I believe McVay will keep it simple again because the Bucs defense is formidable.
I look toward the next few weeks after Tampa for McVay to push Jared again vs familiar opponents. If he can do that with a quieted mind, we will see a more consistent offense.
