Let's remember that Goff was not McVay's choice. Every HC.... especially an offensive minded HC..... has a pretty specific set of attributes he wants in his QB. It may be that McVay is mostly making do, or thinking with enough training he can mold Goff into what he's OK with.
I think McVay wants a more mobile QB (not necessarily a running Q
, and one that can "feel" pressure and adjust. Goff has always had a deficit in feeling pressure, which is why the strip sacks happen. You either have it or you don't.
I'm not dumping on Goff. He's not a bad QB. But I just don't think he's McVay's ideal and I suspect he's getting frustrated.
I think that a guy like Florida's Trask would probably suit McVay more. Bigger. More physical. Really good at recognizing and adjusting to pressure. Likes running the RPO. And I think McVay would love to run an RPO type of offense.
This of course is just my impression and my own opinion, of course.
Sorry...completely wrong on that assessment
McVay could have got rid of Goff if he wanted a new QB instead of pay him $35M a year.... McVay has said many times he wouldn't have had the success he has had without Goff slinging it and making the plays he has made
Goff is actually pretty good at feeling pressure and sliding out of harms way in the pocket and a reason why he is one of the least sacked QB in NFL ...even last year with that OL we had. Everyone freaking out and overreacting to a bad loss is all this is
