Flores and DC Boyer were both on that staff in New England that confused the sh#& out of both McVay and Goff in the Super Bowl. As were three of their defensive starters (Van Noy, Roberts, and Rowe).
That NE style defense appears to be McVay's red kryptonite.
Rams could have gotten by with a mediocre effort offensively yesterday. They couldn't even muster that until garbage time.
There were times yesterday it looked like the Dieter Brock led Rams vs. the '85 Bears in the playoffs and current Dolphins aren't the '85 Bears.
After the SB, I too thought the NE style defense stymied McVay. But more and more now, I believe that it's only McVay's red kryptonite because he has to have a QB that knows what's going on out there and can process things quickly.
I KNOW McVay is smart and can figure stuff out if given enough time. The fact that this stuff is still happening leads me to believe that he doesn't have a QB that can execute.
And I think that's why we're seeing more and more frustration. He said something key yesterday in his PC. He said, "we had answers," but then turned around and said "but they weren't good enough." Reading between the lines, he's saying execution is the issue.
Where I blame McVay is, if you know your QB is limited against that type of defense, call a different game-plan. Protect him. And then decide if you need a different QB at the end of the season. But you gotta put them in position to win with the players you have now despite their weaknesses. That's what a Belichick type coach does.
