From Ferragamo 15: I think you are on this board, too (nor not?)

Brees had a passing DYAR of 883 in his 5th season. That is the only year he has had a DYAR of less than 1,000 since his nightmare 3rd season where he scored -197. Essentially, the 5th season for Brees was a "regression" compared to his 4th year.

The DYARs for Brees in his 4th year (his best season with the Chargers) and his 7th season (his 2nd year with the Saints) are essentially the same as the DYARs for Goff's 3rd and 4th seasons. There isn't a big statistical difference between the two QBs at comparable points in their respective careers.

The 2002 Colts and 2005 Chargers were very talented outside of their future HOF QBs. The Chargers were 7th to begin ESPN's power rankings for the 2005 season. The Colts were 13th to start 2002. The Rams this year were 17th. So, of the 3 squads, the Rams are the only one not widely projected in the preseason to be a playoff team.

While both Peyton and Brees were "pretty good" in their 5th seasons and statistically top 10 type QBs, they each made mistakes and weren't able to deliver wins in important games. They were beaten by very mediocre opposing QBs who essentially were backup level players.

We think of Peyton and Brees as being giants, not just HOFers but both of them very much having a case for being among the best QBs in NFL history. But, this is largely built on seasons that happened well after the years in question. Drew Brees was not viewed as a future HOFer back in 2005. Quite a few naysayers in the draft or in the early years of Peyton's career were calling him overrated. They suggested that if he hadn't been Archie Manning's son, he wouldn't have been so highly regarded or treated so well by the media. Peyton never beat Florida in college and had 6 interceptions in his last 2 games against them. In his senior year bowl game, the Vols were crushed by Nebraska and Peyton looked scared against their pass rush. Consistently in his early NFL career, Peyton laid eggs in big games.

Jared Goff is 20-13 in his last 33 games, including the playoffs (2 playoff wins). That's a 61% winning percentage. This stretch encompasses the entire period that critics claim that Goff has regressed and struggled.

In the comparable 33 game stretch of Peyton's career, he went 14-19, a 42% winning percentage. He had zero playoff wins. This isn't a small sample size. 33 games is more than 2 full seasons compared to a 16 game schedule.
