with the oline
physical matchups against the Eagles and Bills ...the Rams ability to run the ball of those fronts was encouraging
The last two weeks they haven't been as good... but just think back to the game against Cleveland last year as an example. The Rams won that game but they struggled on the line of scrimmage and as a result, Goff struggled
Now when they struggle on the line... the whole offense doesn't just bog down or hasn't yet
One of the biggest changes in this offense is the quick ball and getting that ball out of Goff's hands quickly. This is also working and it's easily reflected in the numbers with all the short throws but yards after the catch. With Goff's big ypc number you might assume the ball is going downfield but he has 4 or 5 passes that have actually traveled 20 yards or more
There are a lot of things contributing to this offense looking a lot better
McVay's system is about controlling the clock on offense, or winning time of possession.
In Goff he has a QB who is very accurate and perfect for this type of offense. Short to medium throws that are on time and very accurate. McVay's system is about getting the ball to guys on the run so they can get YAC, thats why Goff has the highest YPA in the league at 9.0, while he has the shortest yards in the air. Very similar to what Belichick did with Brady.
This method also helps keep the defense fresh, and is a reason why we give up fewer points in the 4th quarter.
