it's not like we have great play at nickel this year. Losing NRC should have opened the door for Long. He lost out to an UDFA.
As far as Gaines, Sebastian Joseph Day doesn't exactly wreak havoc on offenses. The fact that Gaines sits behind him should tell you something.
I'm not throwing shade at Snead. The draft is a crap shoot and these guys are all still young. But after all the hype about Rapp as a steal in the 2nd round. He seems like an ordinary second round pick. He also lost his job to a rookie 6th rounder who everyone on the team was raving about.
Why would a 2nd year guy crack the nickel spot ahead of a 6th year guy who played well last year? Or ahead of a 3rd year guy who also has been rated highly? Why does that mean he's not that good as opposed to it meaning yes the Rams are that deep at CB?
So you have to wreak havoc to start? How about just being an effective starter? Which is why the 3rd year guy is ahead of the 2nd year guy. What it tells me is that they like the more veteran player so far.
I don't think you can draw any conclusions about 2019 draftees based on who is starting at this point.
