Good points but how is Wolford looking like a shrewd move? Who even knows if he's good?
Let’s take a look at the 2 options that Rams had for their backup QB, droopy.
1. Go with Wolford. Wolford played great in ps of ‘19 and in camp this year in McVay’s O. Knows his fellow players and knows his playbook already. Respected by coaches and teammates alike. Looks like he’d be capable of carrying the team for 3 weeks or so if Goff were injured. Wolford is inexpensive and might have a high ceiling with the potential to down the line fetch a pick or player in trade.
Or...
2. Sign a vet QB as backup. New to coaching staff, playbook, and teammate chemistry. Probably a failed former starter or maybe a ‘never was’ with a fairly low ceiling. Probably expensive.
I think Wolford’s play made this an easy decision. I was calling it for 2 months before final cutdowns.
