If a player has done his film work and "knows" what's coming he can take a few steps in the correct direction...and those steps will mitigate the angle of a speedster's great 40 time....cuz the sub-athlete had already taken those make-up steps earlier in the play or even before the play. No wasted steps also keeps one in position to make a play and that's film work and instincts. That's how all these 4.6 guys run away from people during games!! However, great athleticism buys more leeway for mistakes and allows them to make up the distance so it kinda 6 of 1 - half dozen of the other kinda thing.
