Here ya go. Not the best pic but this is my favorite hoodie. This is from when my son and I went to see WWE NXT in Allentown Pa last year. He has 4 of the hoodies. 3 home 1 away.
)))))
Very cool! Btw, did you two ever go to any ECW events when it was around? It was based in PA and had shows in Allentown on a regular basis.
lol...Yes Killrazor, I sure did go to ECW down in Philly in the mid 90's. I was on tv every week from like '95-'98 wearing my Rams jersey and hat about 4-5 rows back. A couple of my friends and I actually worked with them for a while and got in the Arena early and had choice of seats so we went for front and center lol. They called me ECW Ramsguy. (they had nicknames for everyone like: Hat Guy, Hawaiian Shirt guy, Sign guy, etc) I still have the "Staff Pass" that we wore at the shows. I never gave it back.
My friend and I created a "dirt sheet" called Pro Wrestling Between the Sheets (PWBTS) that we sold monthly. I would monthly articles. We were able to get access to wrestlers for interviews. It was really fun. After the shows, we'd head for a cheese steak and then to the Ramada Inn to chill with the wrestlers in the bar\lounge area. Met many big names there. I could tell write a book based on some of the things I saw there lol.
Things were different then. A lot of people really believed it was real and the Philly crowd could be brutal. The Police actually had to escort a manager\ref (Bill Alfonso) into the arena to protect him.
Fans were pretty cool and I didn't get hassled "much" lol for my gear. It might have helped that we weren't very good at the time too! People would recognize me at the local sports bar where I went to watch the Rams games. "Hey, aren't you that guy on ECW?!?!" LOL Good times!
You can see me here at the :20 sec mark wearing my Bettis B+Y jersey...
)))))
Well, nice to finally meet you! I have hundreds of hours of old ECW home videos with matches and you in the crowd! As a Rams fan, I always looked for you in the crowd when they were in the arena. You usually had number 80 on I believe.
I actually was at the arena for the debut of Brian Pillman and I think you were at that show. I actually think I told you "nice jersey and go Rams!"
I went to about 4 arena shows in total, no small feat having to fly in from Florida. We came to many events like Cyberslam and Back to the Extreme because Tom Misnik held the ECW fan conventions during those events every year. We stayed at the Travelodge (OHHHhhhh the stories from that place!) and hung out with wrestlers in the bar after the shows. We would watch that weeks ECW episode with a bunch of wrestlers in the bar.
My friends and I were the unofficial Florida ECW faction as we were known as the ECW Florida Dudes. We would hold parties after the show and give out free beer and pizza to fans and wrestlers that we invited to our hotel room. We were actually passing out business cards during the show to advertise the party. Any show held in Florida, we were pretty much there doing our thing but especially during the convention trips to Philly.
I believe you knew Mike Johnson, he was a cool guy that I meet on ECW message boards and now he works for pro wrestling Illustrated or something.
Anyway, so cool to know you are ECW Ramsguy. I did always wonder if you took a lot of flack from Eagles fans, those crowds could be rough at times. Like you said, the Rams were pretty bad during those years, so you were hardly considered a threat and the fact you loved ECW helped the cause as well!
Wow. That's a great story killrazor!! What a small world! I do remember a Florida "clique". Cool to know you were part of that! It was a special time for sure. You are correct, I usually wore my #80 jersey. It was one of my favs!
I recorded every week on VHS and still have the tapes. My wife had contacted the Rams PR dept in St. Louis (Tony Wyllie?) trying to get me an autograph. They struck up a conversation and she mentioned how I went to ECW. He came back and mentioned that D'marco Farr was a HUGE ECW fan. Eventually, I would send a VHS tape of the last months shows to him since ECW was not broadcast in St louis. I heard that the players would gather around and watch it with him!
Would love to trade stories with you some time.
I feel like you are part of my family now!
It's absolutely a small world after all! I know you have been a Herd member for like, forever, just like me. Funny that we have been here all this time and didn't even realize that we lived through the glory years of ECW and Rams football right here in the Herd. Wow!
That's really cool to learn that you taped shows for D'marco Farr and ultimately other Rams as well. ECW was so good it could turn a non wrestling fan into a fan.
Cool video btw, brings back a lot of memories of the Gangstas and the Eliminators, besides for the edited music of course!
I'm sure we both have countless crazy stories to tell. It was a special time for sure. Anytime bro.
