Yes, I keep the file the same name due to it also needing to be changed in the header module settings, and I'm too lazy to do it.
In regards to managing your browsers temp internet files (aka cache), there are so many ways this can be done that it makes it impossible for me to try and give you pointers on what to do. Some settings are common sense, some are personal preference. But I can tell you this much, if you've never messed with them before, then you're probably one of the people that doesn't get to see the new headers when we make changes. ;-)
A quick way to see the new banner if we do a change, and you're not sure why you cant, is to open up an incognito window within Chrome. No caching is used and all site assets are pulled fresh from the server.
Another way to "trick" your internet cache into loading the new image is to do the following (using Chrome.... other browsers should be similar) -
- Right click the header graphic
- Select "Open image in new tab"
- Once the image loads in the new tab, go to that tab, and hit the browser's refresh button.
- The new image is now loaded for you, and stashed away in your internet cache
- Go back to the board, and hit the browser's refresh button - magically, the new header is now shown
