To watch McVay's hires and his coaching tree grow. He's already off to a really good start, with a couple guys getting head coaching gigs, but over time what really matters is whether he has that eye for making great hires. Some head coaches don't have that feel IMO and it's not like he's been perfect even in a small window (Robinson & Fisch didn't exactly make a big difference). But the great ones do have the ability to see talent in their prospective coaches just like they would with players.
So we don't really know yet where he's going to fall out in all that. But just the chance that he might be one of those rare guys is exciting for us. This will be his first year without the "experienced coordinator" on the other side where his knowledge is weaker. It's not a guarantee by any means that Staley will be an upgrade, but either way this year is going to be extremely interesting from that perspective.
There is still that chance we're witnessing the early career of an elite head coach (it seemed a certainty in 2018 but his clout took a bit of a hit in 2019). And beyond my concerns over the OL and Snead being too free with our picks and all that we are in a great window as fans because of McVay. It just feels good to be able to fall back on that and hope that Snead got him enough pieces to do the job.
