I have Dickerson #3 all time behind Brown and OJ. Put him on the greatest show on turf teams and he would have blown everyone away.
Deacon was the best ever.
Just spitballing with you here, Deacon. Hairsplitting might be more accurate.
But Dickerson on those GSOT teams over Faulk? Faulk was the better receiver and better in pass pro, too. Not to mention that Faulk was like another coach on the field plus with the jump cuts in traffic. Both in their prime? I take Faulk over Dickerson for GSOT every time.
Deacon? Gawd! I’m a huge fan. Enjoyed the heck out of watching him play in his prime (yeah, I’m THAT old). Even met him once and enjoyed a brief conversation. But Deacon vs AD as ‘best’ player at their respective positions? I hafta give AD the nod because AD is doing it in modern day football. This may sound like heresy, but both Merlin and Deacon would probably struggle against modern OL players, modern player conditioning, size, and current rules.
Sorry.
AD is great and ranks with the all time greats not question about it. If you want to say AD and Deacon are of similar stature all time I have no problem with that. I love AD.
Faulk was great no question and could catch the ball and so amazing things once he did. Dickerson ran against a stacked defense and played with a crap QB. Dickerson had power, speed and could hit the hole amazing fast. Faulk was more Barry Sanders and Dickerson was more like OJ all great runners and Faulk was the best pass catcher but also played on the overall best offense by far. I would love to have seen what Mad Mike could do with the Dickerson. You love AD and Faulk, No problem.
The comment of Deacon struggling I think may be off. At 275 he ran a 9.7 hundred yard dash. That is probably faster than any DE right now. He had amazing power and burst but his signature move the head slap is now illegal.
Maybe I just love those old guys. Feel the same way about Elign Baylor in basketball who is under rated as an all time great IMO.
