Deacon, didn't he invent the sack? Okay he coined it. If they counted em all we all know who the real all-time leader would be. His head slap was do devastating it had to be outlawed! He played with tremendous speed, power and reach. His violence and ferocity was unmatched. DEACON and AD on the same defensive line, one could dream.
I loved Dickerson and Faulk but, Kurt Warner is my offensive guy. His story for me is the greatest story of any player to make it to the NFL and 1999 was beyond believable! Warner was tough, determined and brave in the pocket, he had a quick release. In his hay day he was more accurate than any Ram QB that I can remember with a defender about to pumel him He was a good guy too.
I'm not buying that Merlin or Deacon could not compete in pro football today, although Deacon would be a penalty machine and probably be suspended for repeated rough in the passer or tossing a running back or two. But, if they had played in the modern era wouldn't they also benefit from modern coaching, Nutrition, supplements, weight training, equipment, etc...? They would have been bigger and faster too. Now consider some modern day players back in a time when they faced chop blocks, head slaps and a seriously more violent game without protections the modern players enjoy. Suh would have fewer penalties and AD would still be dominate, but many modern players would not. Careers would for the most part likely be shortened.
