I liked Fowler. Seemed like a good guy, is still only 25, and those 11.5 sacks were very welcome indeed. Would have loved to keep him.

AND truth is those nice sack numbers are far and away what recommends him to most of us, he put them up in contract year, and he's hardly a proven commodity. 11.5 sacks in 16 games for Fowler vs. 8 sacks in 13 for Clay Matthews. As I recall, Matthews was the sack leader when he got hurt. I don't think anyone would call Matthews a "core" player. I don't think Fowler deserves that either.
