even the Rams were preparing Goff for the poor line play. Wanted his to improve in a cluttered pocket and move better/more

the Rams oline in the second half last year got beat up pretty good at Pittsburgh and wasn’t good against either the Ravens or Cowboys

they were good pass blocking in that SF game so I will give them that

I can only go on what I see and based on what we saw last year very few Ram fans thought they would improve like they have

I mean the 2018 oline wasn’t able to do what the 2020 line did to the interior of the Eagles D line. That’s all you really need to know right there

And while I know we are really talking about pass blocking here but the area the line has improved the most has been run blocking.

No one No one thought the Rams would average 140 yards rushing per game through 5 weeks. They are running the ball more productively than any year under McVay and that includes two MVP type seasons from Gurley

Now people can act like they saw that kind of improvement coming but I think we all know better.

The old adage: "hope for the best, prepare for the worst" comes to mind.

The Rams would have been foolish not to prepare for poor OL play. But that doesn't negate the fact that they had high hopes and even expected the OL to make significant improvement. We know they expected this because they said it over and over and because they didn't draft any OL.

The OL had shown massive improvement in the 2nd half of 2019. As I stated earlier, it was definitely not unreasonable to expect significant improvement for the 2020 OL.

The whole idea that know one could have seen this coming is untrue. Maybe very few foresaw the degree of improvement that we've seen manifest but many foresaw significant OL improvement.

And on top of it, as I pointed out, the issues that came up about prepping Goff to throw under pressure had to do with the idea that throughout the entire league, there was a chance that OL play would be shaky at first because of the pandemic situation leading to lack of practice.

No one ever said, we have to prepare Goff because OUR line will be bad. They said OL play could be shaky at first because this summer no team gets the kind of OL practice it needs.

It was a wise precaution and a good thing to do anyway.

But working on that stuff with Goff was not this announcement that the Rams anticipated that their own OL was just deficient in terms of talent.

I mean they didn't draft any linemen until the 7th round. If they believed their own OL would be deficient in its own terms because of talent issues, then not drafting linemen would have been negligent.
