That does look better from the side. Nice work! Now, the internal part of the bottom section has a curve that pulls the peak just a little bit away from the top section (sort of like a crescent moon). I think if you can pull the peak up a bit it will make the two parts seem like a whole. That's why I think Eric described it as TWO bananas. In typeface, I believe this is called kerning.
I don't think you want to change the space between the horn sections right there because when you look at the helmet from the front, the horn looks three dimensional because of that space.
