I imagine you are right about the target audience. Jim Everett's tweet echos your sentiment. While I am Gen X and I definitely have some product of my time aspects, I am honestly naturally postmodern in my perspective. I really could have been OK with contemporary style changes. Maybe it is just me but these just don't quite seem to work. It is subjective. It's an opinion. I like the idea of the sun, the ocean, and sand being influences. But these colors seem too vivid somehow. There is almost a tension between the yellow and blue. The thickness of the blue number coming off of the uniforms just seems like a poor design. I do like some color gradation in uniforms but this just doesn't seem to work with yellow to white all of a sudden. I think they wanted to make a splash but it just seems like a miss to my eyes. If Gen Z loves the new uniforms and I am a minority stuck in old school thinking that would be wonderful. The LA Times, CBS, PFT poll, Dickerson, Power Ranger comments among others make me worry I am not alone here. The logo had a fair amount of public concern. I don't mean to bring negativity to the board. My hope is that there is a quick reversal like there was with New Coke but I don't expect that will be the case. Chris Simms likes them and he apparently has an interest in design. Maybe I'll adapt and they grow on me.
