Notice I phrased it ‘most excited’ to see rather than ‘expect to do well/start’?
I LOVE all 5 of our first picks and like all the others.
No doubt in my mind that Akers, Jefferson, and Lewis will be either starters or will be significant producers in a rotation.
But there are two rookies that particularly intrigue me. Burgess and to a lesser degree Johnston.
Why Burgess? Because I think he opens up possibilities for Staley to be unpredictable and versatile, two of an imaginative DC’s best friends. And he has both good instincts and is a fine tackler. I fully expect him to be a starter at nickel CB come opening day. I expect him to provide a HUGE impact on Staley’s D. I suspect that he might be the biggest surprise of this draft when considering his impact vs his draft position.
Johnston? Well, I just look forward to watching such an enthusiastic player, particularly at the ILB position which seems to be very much up in the air. Don’t know when Johnston will be cleared to play, but I predict that his on field presence will definitely be noticed. Should be a fan favorite if he can remain healthy.
