Akers was a standout in pass protection, as well. He earned an 86.4 PFF pass-blocking grade in 2018 and a 72.2 PFF pass-blocking grade in 2019. He allowed just 15 total pressures across his 324 pass-blocking snaps at Florida State.

With Gurley gone, McVay is going to want a RB he trusts in pass pro.

His stats aren't close to some of the other top backs in the class, but he was also running behind the fourth lowest graded power-5 run blocking unit. Backs like D'Andre Swift (1st run blocking) , Jonathan Taylor (6th), and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (14th) were on the opposite end of the spectrum.

I am so happy to read this. It was my number one concern before the draft as for drafting a RB.

This is what I posted a while back:

If we take a back, I'm only interested in the guy if he can actually pass block or is close to be able to handle it at the NFL level.

I'm getting tired of us taking guys (Kelly and Hendo) and then finding out that they can not get on the field because the coaching staff doesn't trust them.

I'm glad Mcvay and company took the guy they felt could see the field and have the skills necessary to pass block at a high enough level.
