Curious about these years as a UK Rams fan who, in the late 80s, was able to get very limited NFL news A weekly paper called First Down was about it). There was the Dickerson trade picks, these were very exciting, But we couldn't watch college football in the UK, and had no idea if these players were good picks or not.
As we know, they weren't good picks.
So, people who watched them. What became of these players and why didn't they work out?
Bill Hawkins
Probably no strong enough, likely a juice guy to even get as big as he was
Cleveland Gary (good player who fumbled too much?)
yes, massive thighs...Robinson loved him, but a fumbler
Frank Stams, LB
too small, too slow, not worthy of where he was drafted, more like a middle round pick
Brian Smith, LB
Tall and skinny, never could get big an stronger, a role player
Henley (prison, got it)
Kevin Robbins, T
never never really played much, hard to know why issue was
Jeff Carlson, QB
Alfred Jackson, WR
got converted to DB, good athlete, but not NFL-level skills
and so on...
And the 88 draft. It's surprising the Rams fell apart from 90 on, because on surface level there's some good picks here:
Flipper Anderson, Robert Delpino, Fred Strickland.
Although, Gaston Green, Aaron Cox and Anthony Newman didn't really work out.
Newman was a good player, a role player... Cox and Green were busts
