If the Rams feel that they made a mistake drafting Henderson, then targeting his replacement in this draft would make some sense. But then why keep Henderson if they don't feel like he's talented enough to start? They already have a plethora of backups in Brown, Kelly, etc. My fear would be that the Rams are wasting draft picks chasing after RBs like when they loaded up on TEs years ago and ended up with Klopfenstein and Byrd.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Ckassical.

Here’s my thinking.

Too early to tell if the Rams made a mistake with Hendo since not enough evidence is yet in (which is actually part of the reason for doubts). We do know that even 1st round picks have approx a 50% bust rate and Hendo was a 3rd, so it wouldn’t be a stunner if he turned out to be less than a stud.

The problem isn’t really about Hendo, anyway. The problem is that we have doubts about the effectiveness and reliability of Hendo/Brown as starters in this O. It seems foolish not to shore up a potential critical area before we start this new season. Much like it would be foolish to take our family on a cross country trip when we had doubts about the engine’s reliability.

We further know that success rate on drafted RB’s goes way down after the 3rd round so it quickly becomes a 15% crap shoot if we wait too long to draft our RB. Given the importance of McVay having a legit running threat in order to execute his O, it just seems prudent to me to draft a RB by end of the 3rd round. And do so annually until someone really steps up.

It’s not wasting draft picks when attempting to fill perceived holes, btw. That’s exactly what draft picks are for.
