A restructure doesn't necessarily mean more guaranteed money. Here's how that could play out with Goff.
Right now Goff's 2020 salary of $10M is fully guaranteed. The Rams could make $9M of that a bonus instead of salary and spread the cap hit from that $9M over the last 5 years of his contract: $1.8M a year.
That would give the Rams an additional $7.2M in cap space this year without giving Goff a dime more in guaranteed money.
(He would get that $9M when the renegotiated contract is signed instead of spread out over the course of the season so he does benefit that way. But it's the same amount of money on his pocket in 2020 either way and also the same amount of guaranteed money either way. Just different accounting ...)
