is graphic design a waste?

It seems to me two years and probably millions of dollars got us what we got.

They could have offered a contest where the winner gets four tickets to the game of their choice. This could have been done in 4 weeks and cost hundreds of dollars.

The latter would also have been done in public with voting and therefore the blame would be on the fans etc.

I do not know why this is not always the route teams go. Seems we are stuck in pre-internet ways of doing business.
