Because name-calling and personal attacks between and among posters builds up resentment and animosity. So do lesser forms of that, such as questioning someone's sincerity or motives. It tenses up the atmosphere.
Players, writers, coaches, and front office folk are not part of the community. They;re not here, they are the objects of our interest and scrutiny. They're fair game.
Though--there will always be someone who resents it if someone else calls a payer, writer, coache, or front office type names.
So for the sake of good conversation that should be avoided IMO.
There is absolutely nothing anyone can say that can't be put differently. That means anyone can translate simple name-calling into civil discourse.
Example.
version 1: Demoff is a complete idiot.
version 2: I think Demoff did not come up with a good team logo
(btw that's just an example, I don't agree with version #2, I like the logo, but you get the point).
