We do this all the time. When the Rams lose a player, we invent myriad scenarios to convince ourselves why said player really wasn't as good as they appeared to be. The list is long:
Janoris Jenkins
Roger Saffold
Ndamukong Suh
Marcus Peters
Dante Fowler
Then we make up fantastic reasons why second or third rate players will be just as effective. Last year the beneficiaries of these hallucinations were Brian Allen, Joseph Noteboom, Greg Gaines, and Sebastian Joseph-Day. I don't know how anyone could reasonably come to the conclusion that Obo = Fowler. There is simply nothing to support that. Hoping for that outcome, albeit blindly, is one thing, but the making up of these strange tales to make the outcome seem factual is truly bizarre under any circumstance.
Is that what I did?
So in your mind, a young guy can never become a good to great starter? LOL
I get it, we want to lessen the pain of a loss but that's not what I'm trying to do here. What I'm trying to do is look at some of our young guys and see if there's some talent there. You know, how players like Littleton and others rose up and became good productive players.
It does happen.
