Howard is a very poor man's Littleton! imo
I didn't mind signing AD to his big contract cuz AD would NEVER take plays off or work less just cuz he signed a big contract...I see Littleton as the same type of guy. AD & Littleton bring it every week come hell or high water...and regardless of the contract. For the money they gave Littleton I woulda paid it and kept him.\
He never takes plays off...like ever!
I'm not a fan of this offseason...at all. Losing Fowler & Littleton was a killer. We have no pass rush other than AD - unless Staley will create exotoc blitzes to free avg guys up...we'll have little pass rush and waste AD. Littleton was a 3down ILB that excelled in pass coverage - like a Safety...a value that will be sorely missed....all in order to keep Whit & Blythe when the drop off from those rookie OL was not that great I'd have rather gone with those guys and letting them play & learn. The TG and Cooks contracts have murdered this team for the next 2yrs and will be why we can't compete...unless we , somehow figure out a way to trade them. And I need all those those projected comp picks for THIS draft...it's so deep and would be the only way I'd be happy with out moves this offseason.
Next year's draft could not be as deep as this year's draft...and so we'll get lotsa mid-round comp picks in a draft that is significantly of lesser quality the next years. Whit signing is silly to me as opposed to coaching up Boom/Evans/ etc for LT. Havs can be a fine RT for us...but we need draft picks in THIS coming draft to make this all work...not next year's draft. imo
UGH...
Lots in there to unpack, Sun. But here goes...
Littleton was a fine player but not a cornerstone worth $12M per to a cash strapped Ram team. Littleton did have his shortcomings, after all. Not the least of which was mediocre run D and we now have a new DC that clearly emphasizes run D.
Fowler at $16M per was not gonna happen. Another fine player but inconsistent. Probably benefited greatly from playing alongside AD. I suspect that Atlanta will kinda regret this move down the road as many teams do that each year jump into the deep end of FA in the first few days.
We need to remember that this new DC emphasizes different things and values different types of players. Probably a good thing, IMO. So it shouldn’t surprise us that his viewpoint is different than what we’ve seen from Wade.
I agree that the Gurley and Cooks contracts have backfired due to health issues of both players. But that’s water under the bridge, right?
Yeah, Whit is costing $10M of very limited cap dollars. But exactly when will Boom be 100%? I’m a big Boom fan but even I can’t predict that with certainty. Big Whit is a helluva insurance policy.
As to the depth of the ‘21 draft? Seriously? I think it’s best to focus on this years draft right now. Lol.
