NFL revenues get divided into two piles.
47% of NFL revenues goes into the player's pile (We as fans see that as the salary cap.)
53% of NFL revenues goes to the owners.
'Cap money' that is not spent on salaries does not go to the owners. Under the NFLPA teams must spend at least 88.8% of the cap on player salaries, and any unused money in one year just rolls over to the next year's cap.
Any discussion about what a player does or doesn't get paid is essentially about what that player's cut of the cap should or shouldn't be. And no matter what the players get or don't get Stan's cut is unaffected.
I said this in jest, but now I'm thinking there may be something to it...I don't think Stan is worried about saving money for his own pockets, but like you said you can roll it over for next years cap...the way the Rams are cleaning house seems like they're looking past 2020 season.
In these trying times right now, it would not shock me one bit if the 2020 season is scrapped or cut down
