Alot of factors worked against last year. Oline problems, gurley lack of production and touches, defensive meltdowns, Goff regression, special teams let downs, questionable play calling and game planning, and injuries. But despite all of those setbacks we were within a game of making the playoffs.
Their is alot to fix for sure for next season but McVay is on the right track by changing the coaching staff. Getting a designated experienced OC to help him out will free him up to be more creative and also give him more accountability (I forgot I had Todd gurley on our team excuse). Also while I believe Wade was a great DC, he couldn't designate as much time into game planning as a hungry young new DC could.I don't see this team folding this year with all the talent we have and energized coaching staff.
I am saying the OL problems came from a poor off-season (then injuries). Because the real issue with OL was both OTs starting out playing poorly. I think having a poor off-season could explain why both OTs started out the season playing poorly. And because the OL was not itself, a lot else followed from that. Poor OL play has an effect on both the qb and the playcalling. In itself accounts for a lot.
Gurley is not going to be what he was. He is dealing with an arthritic knee.
Agreed on poor line play being attributed to injuries and poor off-season and lack of preaseason action included. Gurley is a different back but either use him or someone else. No excuse for not running the ball more. Goff is not going to carry this team on his own at this point in his career. I believe he has potential to be great but needs to step up this year.
