QBs really should never be in a Best player list ever, because you either need a QB or you don't. And if you need 1, you have those guys ranked high. If you don't, then you don't have them so high.
But lets use a guy like K'lavon Chaisson Edge LSU. You may not know who he is, but it doesn't really matter. IMO he is the second best edge rusher in the draft behind Chase Young. That said, he is 6'-4" 250 lbs. He is not big enough to be a DE in a 4 man defensive front. He is not Chris Long sized. He skill set is also wasted being a SSLB in a 4-3 defense as well. So regardless of how Seattle feels about Chaisson (odds are they won't even spend any time looking at him) they wouldn't have him on their board, let alone higher then a 4-3 DE like AJ Epenesa.
That said, I doubt few publications you read about top 100 or top 150 players will have Chaisson behind Epenesa, because what all internet guys are trying to do is give you an overall approach to the "best" players. Never a team specific view.
Thats why I have started doing my Rams only Big Board. To try and clear the clutter for you guys. Oh and for what its worth, need comes into play beyond fit.
Teams will have grades on guys, but they will stack them on their board in groups. Then need becomes the deciding factor.
Example, the Rams have 7 guys graded out roughly the same. They will probably take the guy at the position of greatest need. Or, or, if they like all 7 guys, they try and trade down up to 6 spots, and take whoever is left. Now they got a guy they had graded the same as the guys 6 picks earlier, but gained a pick. If they think all the guys they want or guy they want will be gone before they pick, they trade up.
If drafts were truly BPA, then no one would ever trade a pick, they would take BPA and move on.
Oh and back to Seattle's example with the DE and EDge rusher. If you watch Kipers best available scroll by and they go with Epenesa and Chaisson was still available, the average fan is scratching their head going WTH are they doing skipping the best pass rusher for the 2nd best pass rusher. And then so and so on the internet gives that pick a B-. Because most people have no real clue what teams are trying to accomplish. Or what they know.
