Maybe luck favors them, but assuming they don't benefit from extraordinary luck, they are not going to be in a position to add expensive outside free agents.

They could be in a position to add an expensive OL free agent. As with everything, it comes down to choices and priorities.

Most seem to feel that the Rams can afford to retain one of Littleton or Fowler. ESPN is predicting that they will franchise tag Fowler. If they can keep either of these guys, they could also choose to forego both and sign an expensive outside free agent.

What do they need more - a great OL or one of those defensive pieces?

A franchise tag would wreck their cap. As things stand now, If they tag Fowler, they probably won't even be able to sign AW.

...

Agreed as things stand now. But are you saying you don't think they could afford to keep one of Fowler or Littleton IF they wanted to?

I think they could keep one if they re-structure Goff. That's not original thinking of course, just pointing out the obvious. Now that I've thought about it more though I am against franchising---it means another 1-year, and what follows that is either losing the guy or paying even more in 2021 (because edge rushers' 2nd contracts tend to go up). Either way I am persuaded by the argument that Littleton is the guy to keep.

...

I agree that it would probably take a Goff restructure to keep either of them. But that also means they could choose to do the restructure and obtain a premium OL vet.

If they did tag Fowler, it's possible they do that to trade him ala Dee Ford last year.
