I don't think McVay is pushing Waldron out, i.e. he might be welcome to stay as QB coach, but his responsibility change is basically a firing even though the Rams won't call it such. The passing game in 2019 had route combinations with a lot of evidence of defenses anticipating them, that being DBs sitting on routes and a general lack of separation. Protections were iffy even when there wasn't a physical mismatch up front. And even understanding that the lack of a run game and poor OL influenced things it's pretty clear to me at least that Waldron wasn't ready to do that job for a contender.
So personally I hope he moves on. And I suspect McVay has given him the green light as well as very favorable reviews for any prospective position he might find. Lastly I think that job would be good for him, it'll be his show.
