They owe him like 18 million in dead money on top of any deal they sign him to. That's what happens when you push this stuff down the road. Rams will be out from under Gurley, Cooks, and Havs contracts in 2021 and can cut all 3 with minimal hit.
The Rams have made a deliberate effort in taking care of their players and I think some of the money on these big contracts has to be looked at as an investment beyond the player it was given to. The Rams are, or have already, developed a reputation for rewarding guys who produce.

They are treating these guys like more than pieces of meat. I think that will continue to pay off in ways beyond salary cap issues.
