McVay has reportedly been involved in the defensive gameplanning side of things and his personality/nature insinuates that he's going to try to master that side of the ball. Wade was ideal for him in that way, the guy knows just about everything about defensive ball and has been on his staff for 3 years helping him come up to speed.
So maybe McVay knows more about defense than you give him credit for. If that is the case he would undoubtedly be looking at some guys who have never done the job, not just the proven types. In fact he might want someone who is willing to work with him in the gameplanning in terms of varying the defensive scheme week to week which insinuates he might even favor the unproven types who have the right mind he's looking for.
I mean we'll see but I tend to think the old guys who are set in their ways, proven though they are, would be more resistant to change and that varied approach.
