...he should fire himself cuz the offense wildly underperformed this last year. The STs had a down year, firing Bones is not correct. imo
McVay should fire himself as OC cuz he blew it with great talent and is scapegoating onto other coordinators. STs have been wonderful for us since 2012...very aggressive and making STs a 3rd pillar to the team and not just boring 5th wheel like they are on most other teams.
This is kinda desperate and I don't agree....but it's Mcvay's job on the line so he can do what he wants. We'll see if he's got a good feel for hiring coaches.
It was the OFFENSE this year ~ that screwed the pooch...not the defense or STs....just sayin. McVay better settle down a bit cuz he might be throwing bathwater filled with babies out now....jus cuz he can. I don't see the rationale for Bones departure after one bad/avg season. color me surprised.
It’s a bit more complicated than what you present there, Sun.
McVay had elite O’s his first 2 years and his 3rd year O was crippled by OL decisions and players. Not to mention Gurley’s regression. Not giving McVay a complete pass here, mind you, but still...
OTOH, Wade’s D’s have finished middle of the pack for 3 years running despite being relatively loaded. AD has never received proper surrounding support, IMO. Peters was misused. Ramsey was not used sufficiently in man since he arrived. Suh’s lackadaisical regular season performance was tolerated in ‘18. Wild inconsistencies from game to game. In short, Wade’s D’s were pretty mediocre and he should have been replaced.
Fassel was not fired, exactly. McVay apparently chose to not fight for him and let him go to Dallas. And why? Well, his ST have slipped badly from his ‘17 units. Back to back serious regression, man. Seems reasonable to me to want to make a change. And it sends a powerful message.
Look, I know how easy it is for fans to get emotionally attached to lovable coaches like Wade and Bones. But it’s a mistake for a HC or GM to do so.
There will necessarily be popular players that must be allowed to walk this offseason. Players that we’ve become emotionally attached to. But it just has to happen and we fans must be prepared to see the Big Picture reasoning.
McVay’s philosophy seems to be that both players and coaches must prove themselves every game and every season. Law of the jungle at work. And to McVay’s credit, he has a big set. Big enough to make the hard decisions that he feels will best help his team. Let the chips fall where they may.
