ILB outlook for 2020

January 02, 2020 05:01PM
Just the ILBers. Maybe I should have combined them with the edge guys.

ILBs:

Under contract for 2020:
Micah Kiser - Cap hit 0.73m - if cut 0.15m cap hit
Kenny Young - cap hit 0.66m - if cut no dead money
Natrez Patrick - cap hit 0.59m - if cut no dead money
Troy Reeder - cap hit 0.59m - if cut no dead money
Travin Howard - cap hit 0.59m - if cut no dead money

Free Agents:
Corey Littleton - UFA (can meet and sign with any team)
Bryce Hager - UFA (can meet and sign with any team)

Positional review:
Like the DL review, this was all Littleton and not much of anything else. It really was a parade of whoevers after Kiser went down. Littleton is vastly under rated and I hope the Rams pay him, but if not the Rams, someone. He has earned it. I think Kiser is the odds on favorite to return to his MIKE spot. The rest of the guys all showed a little of something. Patrick and Reeder were OK, Howard flashed and Young did very little. The 2nd best ILBer was actually Taylor Rapp in his Big nickel LBer spot. Travin Howard is a tad undersized for my liking, but he is active and seems to get it. They liked Young enough to trade for him so I think one of those 2 are in line to replace Littleton.

Free agency & draft priority: Low

I put it at low because the Rams either re-sign Littleton or they do nothing of note in FA or the draft. They have never made ILBer a priority. And I don't see it happening now with so many other spots to improve. One name worth mentioning is Danny Trevathon. 30 years old and enjoyed his best years under Phillips in Denver. He is literally the only FA that makes sense inside.

As far as the draft, think day 3. You guys seem to like Evan Weaver, even with all those V's in his name and he is a tackling machine and is ultra-instinctive. He'd be competition for Kiser at the MIKE. Monty Rice in round 4 is finally starting flash his full skill set. He can do a little of everything, but is at his best flowing downhill and thumping. Troy Dye is an intriguing replacement for Littleton as he does a nice job defending TEs and is a quick read and react type guy. He could be around in the 4th. Shaq Quarterman is my favorite to draft in the middle of day 3. He's a MIKE that can blitz and loves to impose his will.
