Given the importance of the role, the Gurley situation, Malcolm's injury history, Kelly and Henderson's inability to see the field I would not hesitate to bring in a challenger. They very well may not make any RB changes, but it will be difficult to see the Rams stand pat with the RB position. The offensive line/running game has to improve. There is too much coaching and player talent on this team to waste. There is an opening for a franchise back position in Sean McVay's (Kromer) offense. Someone needs to seize that role.
I like Brown's game. I was glad when they resigned him cheap for 2 years. He runs with power. He is extremely trustworthy in pass protection. He can do some damage with screen passes. He still brings value but that injury history, (each of the last three years as a pro) dates back to his days at Texas. Brown is a former five-star recruit to Texas. He never quite put it together as a Longhorn which is why he went undrafted. He is heading into his 6th year as an NFL RB and turns 27 this offseason yet it feels like he has not quite gotten started. He missed the Superbowl run which is why the Rams got CJ Anderson, and he missed a golden chance to have a large role in McVay's offense this season. Brown has rushed for:
2019 255 yards
2018 246 yards
2017 212 yards
2016 39 yards
2017 17 yards
Hopefully, Henderson does not lose anything to his surgery, overcomes whatever barriers that kept him off the field and becomes a feared runner in the NFL. I would bring Brown back, hope he stays healthy and has a bigger role. I am fearing that he looks like a good number 2 RB who never seems to produce because he is not available. I would do everything I could to cheaply improve this running game. I would use another draft pick on a RB if there was one that looked like he could take (Kelly) Brown or Henderson's job.
Malcolm Brown (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.
Brown's Week 7 status is up in the air, but we'll learn more based on Thursday and Friday's injury reports. The same can be said with Todd Gurley, who was limited Wednesday with his ongoing thigh contusion. If neither can get ready in time, rookie Darrell Henderson would be projected for a lot of work against the Falcons this Sunday. Stay tuned.

Rams RB Malcolm Brown underwent surgery for a shoulder injury on Monday.
Brown suffered the injury against the Lions. The Rams have not released a timetable for his return, but coach Sean McVay seemed to suggest Brown will miss some time. With Brown sidelined, sixth-round rookie John Kelly and Justin Davis are the names to know behind Todd Gurley.

Rams RB Malcolm Brown is out indefinitely with an MCL injury.
Per ESPN Rams reporter Alden Gonzalez, Brown suffered the injury at the end of Sunday's blowout win over the Giants. Brown is reportedly a candidate for surgery, suggesting a particularly severe MCL tear. Lance Dunbar and Justin Davis are next up on the depth chart behind Todd Gurley. Brown had been impressing in mop-up duty, earning double-digit carries in back-to-back games.

Malcolm Brown injury: What this means for Texas
By David Cassilo Oct 3, 2012, 8:44am EDT
In a game that's sure to be full of offense, the Texas Longhorns will be without running back Malcolm Brown against West Virginia. The sophomore sustained an ankle injury in the first half against Oklahoma State on Saturday, and is out against the Mountaineers.[

Suffered season-ending ankle injury seven games into his sophomore season. Did not play against Texas Tech or Missouri for a turf toe and then hurt his right knee against Texas A&M and sat out against Baylor. Missed five games after spraining an ankle against Oklahoma State.
MALCOLM BROWN
RB, LOS ANGELES RAMS
Rams signed Texas RB Malcolm Brown.
Brown (5'11/224) was a plodding underachiever as a former five-star recruit to Texas, leaving college with 2,678 yards and 24 TDs on 630 carries (4.25 YPC). He had 51 career receptions. Brown ran 4.62 with a 9-foot-9 broad jump at the Combine, but did shine in agility drills and improved his forty time to 4.51 at the UT Pro Day. A one-speed grinder, Brown excels in pass protection and can catch. Perhaps he'll carve out an Andre Brown-like career as a third-down back and No. 2 runner.[
