I know what you mean and I'm not saying he's a lock to be ready to start there or that they shouldn't make contingency plans. I'm just saying people seem to somehow be worried he won't be physically ready to play until October or something and that just should not be the case. He should be active as soon as OTAs in May. So he can at least compete for the job.
Agreed, he's not a lock. But that also does not rule him out. Every team in the league faces that scenario sooner or later--you cannot replace every experienced LOT with another experienced LOT. Sooner or later inexperienced LOTs have to start in the league. It happens all the time.
BUT we don't know the situation. Will Whit come back? (I think he will.) Will NB then learn behind him? (I think so.) Will they draft another LOT prospect? (If one's there, sure.) They could actually end up 3 deep at the position.
Plus these coaches have earned our trust when it comes to judging OL players. I keep saying it but I cannot recall any other situation where there was an OL with 3 inexperienced injury replacements, let alone one that did well under those conditions. The coaches that pulled that off have earned a lot of trust.
